What does the Barbary Coast Bull Terrier Club do?

Sanctioned by the American Kennel Club and the Bull Terrier Club of America, the BCBTC sponsors "Specialty" Bull Terrier shows, publishes one of the most widely respected club newsletters in the country, keeps members current on canine legislation affecting them or our breed, hosts a variety of activities and opportunities for BT owners and dogs to meet each other and share in the unique fun of being a Bull Terrier owner. It is, in a way, like a family.

Why join a Bull Terrier Club?

Breed clubs are beneficial to people who own dogs or show dogs in a particular breed, or who think they may be interested in getting their first dog in that breed. Breed clubs give those interested in or involved with a specific dog breed a support group and a base of information to help them in deciding if this is the breed for them; and in rearing, training, showing, or breeding their dog once they have one. If you own a Bull Terrier, or are considering obtaining one, joining a Bull Terrier Club would be of benefit to you. If you are not in Northern Calfornia, visit the Bull Terrier Club of America website to find out which regional club is nearest you.

What are the Benefits of Membership in the BCBTC?

New members of BCBTC receive the following materials:

  • Reduced subscription rate to The Barking Lot, the bi-monthly publication of the Barbary Coast BTC. The Barking Lot contains articles of interest to dog owners, many of which are specific to Bull Terriers, and keeps members informed about club activities and meetings, upcoming dog shows in Northern California, BT health issues, and much more;
  • A copy of Teaching Your Bull-Headed Terror, provided by Bull Terrier Rescue, Inc., the breed rescue organization associated with our club;
  • A copy of The Healthy Bull Terrier, provided by The Bull Terrier Welfare Foundation, Inc.
  • A list of resources for Bull Terrier owners;
  • List of On-Line sites and services for Bull Terrier owners, including informative sites on the World Wide Web and information on joining a free BT email group;
  • Links from the BCBTC web site to member pages;
  • Barbary Coast BTC Constitution and Bylaws;
  • Bull Terrier Club of America Breeder Code of Ethics and Standard of Conduct to help with your search for responsible Bull Terrier breeder.

A portion of membership dues collected goes to support Bull Terrier Rescue, Incorporated; and your support of a Bull Terrier Club promotes responsible ownership of the breed.

What are the requirements for membership in BCBTC?

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, in good standing with the American Kennel Club, and willing to subscribe to the purposes of BCBTC. Ownership of a Bull Terrier is not required.

How do I join BCBTC?

Applicants for membership in the Barbary Coast Bull Terrier Club must submit an application form (with the appropriate membership fees), signed by two current members in good standing who are willing to sponsor that applicant. Applicants are encouraged to attend one or more club meetings or activities prior to acceptance of their application. For more information, contact any of the club officers listed above.
